Victim Rights Support Services (VRSS)

The Victims' Bill of Rights (VBR) came into effect in 2001. This legislation specifies the rights of victims of the most serious crimes. The bill ensures crime victims' rights are recognized and protected in their dealings with police, prosecutors, courts and corrections officials. Victim Rights Support Service assists victims who qualify for services under this legislation by: helping them register for their rights under VBR; explaining when and how they may exercise their rights; providing information about the prosecution and results of the case against the accused; providing court support and information, when possible.
